About Meukow

Meukow, was founded by in 1862 by brothers August and Karl Meukow, who originally visited Cognac in service of the Tsar of Russia who hired them buy cognac for the imperial court at St. Petersburg. The Brothers Meukow made their initial visit in 1850. In 1862, August and Karl established the House of Meukow in Cognac with Frenchman Charles Levoie. Henri Bourand, once the Mayor of Cognac, managed the business initially. In 1880, an Englishman Thomas Shepard became a partner. Today, Meukow Cognac is owned by Compagnie de Guyenne.

Meukow is famous for its fine cognac and its iconic feline bottle that features a black panther (see below).

Like all cognacs, Meukow’s cognacs are created through a double distillation process and their blended eaux-de-vie are aged in french oak barrels. Meukow’s eaux-de-vie come from six Cognac Designations of Origin: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Bons Bois, Fins Bois, Borderies and Bois Ordinaires.

Meukow produces a wide range of cogancs including, Meukow VS (very special), Meukow 90 (a 45% alcohol cognac, crafted for mixing), Meukow VSOP Superior , Meukow XO (crafted from a blend of Grande and Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie with Fins and Bons Bois eaux-de-vie), Meukow XO Grand Champagne (made from eaux-de-vie exclusively from Grand Champagne), Meukow Extra (made by Meukow’s cellar master from a blend of the the oldest cognacs kept in Meukow’s Paradis Cellar).
